Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 1126 on August 26, 2022, extending California’s mandatory retirement plan law to all nongovernmental employers with one or more eligible California employees in 2025 (previously it was 5). Sole proprietorships, self-employed individuals, or other business entities with no employed individuals other than the owner are not subject to the mandate.
